Ciao amici!
Finally I wrapped up the 2011 harvest!
This has been a long, tough season. Last year mother nature blessed us with an
outstanding growing season and this year instead she challenged all east coast
winemakers by promising a very good yield in July and then emptying all of the
sky’s tanks….I mean I never saw that much rain all together, it was ridiculous!
You know what? When the game gets tough the tough get game!
Which in Italian is “quando il gioco si fa duro, I duri cominciano a giocare!”
This year we avoided grapes from the devastated areas and we only harvested the
good ones. I adopted all the production procedures for difficult harvests,
protecting the fragile grapes and dealing with not perfect ripeness. Therefore
we decided to produce less because our responsibility is to offer you the best
we can, and this year the grapes quality wasn’t easy to find.
All the 2011 wines I have in the cellar are doing good, as usual I am confident
they will turn out very nicely!
While the young ones are aging we are getting close to the big bottling days for
our new Port, Vin De Paille, Heritage, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot 2010. As
I said before, the 2010 harvest has been fantastic, and the 2010 wines are
awesome! You will experience them and you’ll be pleased and proud of Virginia!
In the vineyard the vines are approaching their dormant phase, in one month from
now we will start pruning them as well as feeding the soil to prepare it for the
winter.
Soon you will have your beloved Port again. You will taste the unreleased 2009
Heritage and Viognier 2010 BUT be ready for our big surprise….
THE MOSCATO D’ASTI 2011!
The much anticipated 2011 Moscato D’Asti is the first nominee of our new project
of importing some very unique and rare wines from Italy from specific little
areas.
My knowledge on the Italian varieties and winemaking along with my friendship
and collaboration with the producers will allow us to bring to your table a very
limited production of unique wines made and produced only for us. Every year we
will be bringing a different rarity and we will offer you something that you
probably have never experienced before on numbered bottles and on a very limited
production.
Again and again we are here to offer you the best and I hope you will enjoy our
efforts.
Ciao!
Simone
